Glutathione: Its Benefits, and Increasing Your Body’s Supplies

A very simple molecule naturally produced by your body on a regular basis is called glutathione. It is composed of proteins or amino acids – cysteine, glutamine and glycine, its building blocks.

So what is so special about glutathione? There is only one answer – it is the mother of all antioxidants. In fact, it is the body’s most important molecule as far as health is concerned. The good news is, there are many ways to boost our glutathione levels, starting with the following:

1. Eat the right foods.

Milk thistle is a great source of silymarin, which is an antioxidant compound that helps prevent glutathione depletion in the liver. Fruits and vegetables are also rich in the master antioxidant, with those consumed raw having the highest amounts, and it’s the same with eggs and dairy products.

2. Include bioactive whey protein in your diet.

Bioactive whey protein is a great source of glutathione’s amino acid building blocks. But remember, “bioactive.” You need the whey protein to be bioactive and made of non-denatured proteins, which means normal protein structure is intact (as opposed to denatured). Make sure you consume non-pasteurized and non-industrially produced milk with no hormones, antibiotics or pesticides.

3. Exercise regularly.

Yes, exercise boosts your glutathione levels and hence your immune system. Around 30 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise daily is a good start. It also helps to do strength training for 20 minutes, three times a week.

4. Take glutathione supplements.

This is probably the easiest and most effective way to maintain healthy levels of glutathione in the body.. Why? Because it’s so easy to pop a pill, and it may be the only thing we can do with consistency, considering how busy life has become for all of us. Finally, if you’re thinking of buying glutathione supplements, just make sure you know your vendor. Fake products aren’t just ineffective; they can also endanger your health.
